In this paper, with cassava starch as graft framework, fluorinated acrylic ester as monomer, potassium peroxodisulfate and sodium bisulfite as the mixed initiator, a new paper sizing agent of grafting copolymerization with cassava starch and fluorinated acrylic ester was prepared by emulsion polymerization method. Through single factor analysis, we studied the graft copolymerization affecting factors including the dosage of emulsifying agent, the concentration of initiator, the monomer and cassava starch quality ratio, the reaction temperature, and the reaction time under ultrasonic wave synthetic methods. The results showed that the optimum process conditions under ultrasonic wave, the dosage of emulsifying agent S200 was 1.24%, the concentration of mixed initiator was 22.68mmol/L, the reaction temperature was 45 , the °C reaction time was 3h, the quality ratio of monomer and cassava starch was 1:1. The structure and properties of the grafted product were characterized by SEM, IR and XPS. The results showed that cassava starch could be grafted with fluorinated acrylic ester under ultrasonic wave.
