During the pickling process one of the goals is that the steel strip remains immersed as long as the process requires, in order to achieve the desired results. It is crucial, then, to control the depth that the steel strip reaches in the liquors inside the tanks. Unfortunately, due to the physical structure of the pickling lines, the results of the process are only seen at the end stage, when the process has finished. One extreme situation is that the strip runs out of the liquors and no pickling was done. An opposite scenario would be the strip running so deeply in the liquors that it gets in contact with the floor of the tank, causing scratches on the strip and damaging the internal structure of the tank. Therefore, the strip depth inside the tanks is an important variable to know. This work focuses on the best method to measure this variable.
