At Tata Steel India, efforts are being made to maximize the rate of injection with a high coke to coal replacement ratio without any compromise on blast furnace process, performance and quality. Furnace permeability is the single most important parameter which is affected by many parameters and limits the rate of injection. As the understanding on the impact of quality of the injected coal has increased, Tata Steel India blast furnaces have been shifted from high to low volatile injection coals. In this paper an attempt is made to evaluate performance of different types PCI coals used at Tata steel based on - process and performance shift of Blast Furnaces.
