In recent years, emission of carbon dioxide (CO_2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) has been taken up as a major social problem concerning global environmental conservation. From the viewpoint of suppressing these emissions, the need for energy conservation in the energy consuming industries, including iron and steel production, is increasing more and more. Oxy-fuel combustion technology is a powerful technology to meet this demand. In oxygen combustion, by using pure oxygen or oxygen-enriched air instead of air as the combustion supporting gas, the amount of exhaust gas can be greatly reduced. In addition, high-temperature flame can be obtained, which results in improving heat transfer efficiency and reducing fuel consumption.
