Solid alumina inclusions form in aluminum deoxidized steel in the ladle furnace. These solid inclusions are known to create challenges during casting in terms of nozzle clogging, hi spite of various practices which are used for elimination of theses inclusions, some of them remain.in the steel melt. It is well known that these alumina inclusions can transform to magnesium aluminale spinel inclusions MgAl_2O_4 by reaction of alumina with dissolved magnesium from lop slag or ladle refractories . Magnesium aluminale spinel inclusion similar to alumina inclusions have tendency to adhere to the inner wall of the submerged entry nozzle which negatively affects productivity of the process .While some authors proposed that the modification ol' spinel inclusions by calcium would be less effective than pure alumina , more recent work indicated that spinel modification by Ca treatment is effective and rather easier than for alumina inclusions .
