In the last decades the Iron and Steel Industry has substantially invested on the improvements of their facilities to keep up with the requirements on productivity, quality and safety. The railroad industry has been and is still a very important piece of the logistics of the Iron and Steel sector. The implementation of state of the art railroad automation systems including signaling systems, communication equipment and railroad management systems (RMS) has proved to improve logistics strategy and has also increased personal and equipment safety and operation. The main areas covered by this solution include complete car and locomotive tracking, integrated network and signaling equipment, Automated Switch machines, AEI readers, GPS, wireless networks and Yard Management. The system allows a just in time operation based on scheduling systems to control train and car movements within the yard or the plant and integration to existing Level 2, 3 and Level 4 systems. Mobile devices allow locomotive and ground operators to seamlessly interact with the RMS and other systems.
