Since 1907 when Tata Steel began its operation at Jamshedpur, steam driven turbines have been the prime movers for Blast furnace Blowers because of its inherent operational reliability in conjunction with coal fired boilers as stable source of steam generator. Why then should a change to Electric drive be contemplated if steam turbine had been so successful in the past?
