High silicon content in hot metal becomes one major problem since COREX-3000 was commercially established, which reaches up to 0.8%. Statistical analysis and theoretical calculation have been carried out to study the parameters affecting silicon content using actual plant data. The work enables the examination of the changes of silicon content induced by parameters. It is found that silicon content is influenced significantly by fuel rate, coke rate, oxygen volume and silica ratio. Using low-ash coal instead of coke is beneficial to lower silicon content. Further, a prediction model based on regression analysis has been developed.
