No-Filter VTD/VOD Mechanical Vacuum Pump Solution: A Game Changer in Vacuum Technology

During 2014-15, the SMS Group subsidiary located in Udine, Italy; and German based, US owned, Flowserve SIHI, have jointly developed an industrial application for the SIHI~(boost) type vacuum pumps for VTD/VOD installations. This development resulted by merging twenty years of expertise in mechanical vacuum pump technology for steelmaking, extensive know-how, and novel ideas from R&D departments. The two Companies are now proposing an innovative and unique technical solution that allows steelmakers to eliminate the vacuum bag filter units while simultaneously delivering advantages in terms of availability, sustainability and economics. The novel development is that these pumps, while being screw type pumps, are actually employed as root blowers in this application.
