Danieh Wiping Process Evolution: from new 3rd Air Knives Generation to one integrated Technological Package able to produce tight coating weight tolerances at higher processing speed and reduced operating costs. Galvanizing line productivity, quality and operating costs are influenced by several limitations coming from the wiping and pot equipment. Danieli Wean United, supported by Danieli R&D and Danieh Automation, has deeply investigated this process to remove or reduce these limits. The first result of this R&D activity has been the 3rd generation of Danieli Kohler air knives, with already seven applications in operation, able to achieve outstanding performances with results that can be considered a new technological reference for such type of equipment. In addition eddy current sensors have been tested to develop a reliable strip position detection unit enabling optimal air knife positioning and the identification of strip vibration. The second result is a new concept of electromagnetic strip stabilizer (patent pending) supported by numerical simulations and validated on a full scale laboratory prototype that finally led to the actual industrial system design. The first industrial application is scheduled for installation within 2013. The third result is a new design for the bearings for the stabilizer and sink rolls that allows the production of thin strip with speed higher than 200 m/min with an outstanding bearing life and reduced operating cost.
