Experience With A Revamped VD-VOD System With Dry Mechanical Pumps

Recently, SARRALLE Equipos Siderurgicos has participated in the revamping project of the VD-VOD system in which installation of a dry mechanical pumps was demanded to reduce operating costs and solve environmental problems associated with earlier used steam ejector pump. VOD process requires more attention for correct definition of the pump size since its insufficient suction capacity may result in a lower decarburization rates, increasing not only refining time and creating a risk of not reaching the desired carbon content in steel. The paper presents project execution and commissioning experience as well as operational results achieved by the revamped installation.
