Modification of Reheat Furnace Practices through Comprehensive Process Modeling

IPSCO's Mobile (Alabama) plant was commissioned in 2001 targeting the market of plate and coils. It was later recognized that to increase the productivity of the rolling mill the reheat furnace was the “bottle neck”. Driven by the market demand in recent years, a decision was made to modify the existing heating practices of the reheat furnace with the aim of reducing the residence time which in turn would increase the throughput.
