An efficient Compensation Method for Improving Luminance Uniformity of Organic Light Emitting Diode Panels

This paper proposes a compensation mechanism with a non-linear compution method to improve the display uniformity of color Organic Light Emitting Diode panels. The average luminance for non-neighbor blocks of 4 by 4 pixels area are measured by a chroma meter. By using a B-spline curve fitting method, the luminance of other unmeasured blocks inside the panel can be estimated. The system computes the compensation factor of all unmeasured pixels inside the panel and stores the compensated data in Block Compensation Look-up table (BCLUT). Then, an improved display uniformity was obtained by multiplying the original display data with the compensated factors. By using such a compensation compution and compensation scheme, the luminance uniformity of a color OLED panel can be improved. A color OLED panel of 96{sup}* 64 pixels was examined in this paper. From the experimental results, the luminance uniformity upto 95% in average was obtained. Therefore, the proposed method can effectively improve the non-uniform luminance which may be caused during the manufacturing process.
