Indoor and outdoor air pollution are major contributors to the global disease burden. Access to modern energy services for the poor is critical for decreasing major health impacts. Appropriate climate change mitigation policies such as reduction of indoor and outdoor air pollution have 'no regret' impacts on health and economy. Climate change will adversely change public health priorities and resource requirements. A strategic assessment of health impacts of the full life cycle of all energy sources is critical for making informed decision. Scaling up access to clean energy such as wind, solar and geothermal will yield high health dividends.
