The paper presents results from studies in the communities of Homer, Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska in which the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM2000) computed average delay at unsignalized pedestrian crossings were compared to observed average delay. These studies were conducted on neighborhood and city collector urban streets. The results show that HCM2000 estimates were comparable to field measured delay at low and moderate levels of traffic volumes. As traffic volumes increase the difference between field data and the HCM2000 estimates increases, with the HCM2000 values higher than the observed values.
