For cases of transmission lines with low-loss dielectrics and ultra-low surface roughness copper foils, existing surface roughness models cannot capture the entire frequency domain behavior accurately. There are dispersive losses at high frequencies. A behavioral model was developed to capture this behavior and a design flow was created to design the low-loss/ultra-low surface roughness of high-speed transmission lines. This new behavioral surface roughness model is simple to use and does not require using an accurate surface roughness profile. Currently, this is implemented in Keysight ADS tool, but can be extended to be used in any transmission line solver.
