Fixture Crosstalk Assessment Test Fixture for VNA Measurement

In todays high-speed interconnect design, crosstalk is a critical parameter and its accurate measurement is very important. However, in the calibration procedure, the fixture crosstalk is usually ignored to avoid over-complicated de-embedding algorithms. This leads to certain levels of error in the de-embedded results of crosstalk value. When the manufactured parts fail the crosstalk specification with unexpectedly large excursion, engineers struggle as there was no clear indicator as to how much of the measured crosstalk was attributed to the fixture design. We developed a method utilizing a fixture crosstalk assessment structure as a method to assess and to remove the fixture crosstalk effect which remained after a calibration/de-embedding. This paper summarizes design and application of the fixture crosstalk assessment structure from high-speed passive interconnect measurements.
