This tentative survey aims to evaluate the influence of metallic and polypropylene fibrous waste on cracking caused by shrinkage in a mortar prepared from sand of dune (autogenous shrinkage). Tests used to evaluate the free shrinkage or restrained shrinkage, are reported in this survey. The method described in this article to evaluate the restrained shrinkage uses a rigid steel ring that is coated of mortar. After hardening the sample is submitted to conditions suitable to assess the effect of restrained shrinkage at a given time, the resistance to cracking, the number of cracks and the total maximal widths of cracks, are measured and compared to those of plain mortar.
