We report on a highly efficient 1.3-(mu)m continuous-wave (cw) Nd:GdVO_(4) laser pumped by a 879-nm Ti:Sapphire laser. The maximum output power of 1.03W with input pump power of 1.91W, the slope efficiency of 60.7 percent, which is higher than quantum efficiency of conventional 808 nm pumping, and optical-to-optical efficiency of 54 percent were obtained. Non-radiative transition induced heat generation in Nd:GdVO_(4) crystal under lasing and non-lasing conditions are discussed.
