Vietnam is a developing country and not a party to Kyoto Protocol 1997. That means there is no obligation of reduction of CO_2 emission for Vietnam. However, Vietnam can join Kyoto Protocol 1997 by the way of reducing CO_2 emission, and sells this reduction in the international emission trading market. The objective of the study is to evaluate cost effects of international emission trading market on power system with biomass in Vietnam in 2010. The biomass fuel is assumed to be supplied by short rotation forest of Acacia hybrid which is the fastest growing tree in Vietnam. Software named LINDO (Linear, INteractive, and Discrete Optimizer) is used. Parameters of the study are (I) electricity contribution of biomass power generation (0~10%), (2) reduction of CO_2 emission (0~20%), and (3) cost of CO_2 in the international emission trading market (10~20$/t).
