Impact Compressive Stress-Strain Properties of Bulk Structural Adhesives: DP-460 MA560-1

The present paper is concerned with the determination of the high strain-rate compressive stress-strain loops for bulk specimens of epoxy DP-460 and methacrylate MA560-1 structural adhesives on the standard split Hopkinson pressure bar. The compressive stress-strain data including unloading process are obtained over a wide range of strain rates from 10~(-3) to 10~3s. The effects of strain rate on the initial (secant) modulus, flow stress, dissipation energy and hysteresis loss ratio are discussed. The experimental results show that both bulk structural adhesives exhibit dynamic viscoelastic behavior like polymers.
