Charite Berlin: cost reduction by re-organisation of the business unit 'Technik und Betriebe' (Technology and Services)

The Charite is the biggest University Hospital in Europe with about 1.000.000 m{sup}2 cross internal area in Berlin and an annual budget of about 1 milliard Euro. Regarding changes in the financing of the health care system a cost reduction were/is necessary. The reorganisation of real estate management part of the business unit "Technik und Betriebe" is one piece of all needed cost reductions. All non-medical services were sourced out and also sourced in to a common subsidiary of Charite and a private partner). About 840 former Charite employees are integrated. So a cost reduction of 28% was possible.
