APPLICATION OF MAGNESIUM ALLOY PARTS TO ELECTRIC PRODUCTS

In recent years, the environmental problem has been important for the Japanese electric industries. Metals are promising for materials for environmental-friendly products. In addition to the former metals, which have been used in the products, such metals like iron and aluminum, magnesium is now considered. Component parts made of magnesium alloy have been used mainly for portable electric products, because of their lightness and rigidness. The application of metals to the bigger electric products is important from the viewpoint of recycling. In this report, the author introduces the trend of applications using magnesium alloys in the Japanese electric industry and especially in the outer case of a 21-inch television set.
