The Vallourec & Mannesmann Brazil (VMB) come improving its equipment and process of non destructive testing through developments of new technologies in partnership with equipment manufacturers and activities in Vallourec Research Center. Amongst the diverse implemented technological advances, we detach the improvement of the ultrasonic inspection line. From March of 2004, was installed the new Phased Array system with sweepings arrangement in "paintbrush". In comparison with the classic system of ultrasonic inspection, the Phased Array detaches of the sensitivity for natural flaw detection from the lamination process, such as folds of irregular geometry. Through of these developments, VMB increased the inspection capacity and optimized the productive process.
