This paper describes an investigation into the area of interfacial instability. Coextrusion experiments were performed on two-layer annular dies with four LDPEs. Each coextrusion experiment used two layers of the same polymer at the same temperature. The flow ratios of the streams were adjusted in order to determine at what flow ratio an interfacial instability would be observed. The results indicate that the molecular weight distribution (MWD) of the materials is a significant factor in determining the onset of interfacial instability and its origin.
