The papers in this section summarize presentations given in a session on the "toxicology and biological interactions of nanomaterials." The purpose of this session was to review what is currently known of the toxicity of several specific manufactured and naturally occurring nanomaterials, to consider the more general topic of biological interactions of materials on the nanoscale, and to lay the groundwork for development of an effective and focused research program on the collective toxicity of these chemically and physically diverse materials.
