The Journey to Automated Meter Reading, Presented by Niagara Mohawk, a National Grid Company

In 2000, Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation was acquired by National Grid. National Grid was in the middle of implementing a drive by automated meter reading system. Although Niagara Mohawk had studied, like many utilities, installing AMR for all of its customers for many years, we had not done so for all but about 2000 commercial customers. The experience of our new sister utility in New England gave us a new model to use as our guide. This model adopted a cheaper solution that realizes cost savings and meter accuracy benefits.
