A novel comononer 3-butenoic acid-3-ammoniumcarboxylate-methyl ester (BAM) was synthesized to prepare poly(acrylonitrile-co-3-butenoic acid-3-ammoniumcarboxylate-methyl ester) [P(AN-co-BAM)] copolymers by solution polymerization. The orthogonal experiment method was used to study the effect of polymerization conditions on reaction, and the results showed that the temperature had the greatest influence on the conversion of polymerization and P(AN-co-BAM) copolymers with high molecular weight could be obtained by well controlling polymerization conditions. The structure of P(AN-co-BAM) copolymers with different monomer feed ratios were studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and the results showed that the BAM content in the copolymers can be tuned by varying the BAM amount in the feed.
