Conference Summary

摘要

The main purpose of this meeting was to help us anticipate and prepare forthe advent of ALMA by reviewing and becoming more familiar with the scienceareas it will be addressing, and by understanding how ALMA will contribute tothem. Indeed, from comparing the program of the last five days to the contentsof the ALMA web pages, the conference covered every major area in whichALMA will excel, with the exception of our solar system (although there werecontributions discussing extra-solar systems). It is clear from the technology-based talks we heard on the last day of the conference, that the site for ALMAis superb and that the telescope will be a spectacular engineering achievement,and the science talks made it clear that ALMA will be a truly revolutionary leapforward in millimeter and submillimeter astronomy.
