The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) is a widely recognized Information Technology (IT) usage model. TAM, even though very well received in the United States, is found to be less predictive when tested in countries such as Switzerland, Japan, Arabiccountries, and Hong Kong. These studies suggest that culture may play a significant role in IT usage and adoption. No clear relationships, however, have been established between cultural variables and IT adoption factors. We propose to modify the existing TAM model by including cultural factors and test it in a foreign country. Specifically, we want to examine the effect of culture on user acceptance of Prepayment Metering Systems - an IT-based innovation in India.
