Development of Noise Reducing Grease (Part 1) - The Impact of Oil Film Thickness on Noise Reduction Characteristics of Greases
In the past years, the growing popularity of high-end vehicle has increased demands for quietness while driving, and at the same time, noiseless auto parts. Solutions to cope with noise from auto parts include grease lubrication. Especially, high viscosity greases have been widely used for that purpose. These high viscosity greases are also required to be effective over a wide range of temperature. In particular, low temperature characteristics, i.e., smooth operations at -30°C are one of the most important and demanding characteristics to be concerned. This paper will describe developmental processes of a grease which exhibits excellent noise reduction and low temperature characteristics.
