AI-RE (RE-rare earth metals), AI-RE-TM (TM-transition metals) and AI-RE-TM_1-TM_2 amorphous alloys were reported to have high strength and good bend ductility. A quaternary AI_(85)Y_8Ni_5Co_2 glassy alloy shows high mechanical strength (>1200 MPa) and large supercooled liquid region on heating of 30 K. The influence of the electronegativity difference among the constituent elements on the stability of the supercooled liquid in Al-based glassy alloys is reported in the present work in comparison with our previously obtained data for AI_(85)RE_8Ni_5Co_2 glassy alloys.
