Porous ceramics are of significant interest because of their attractive properties, such as high specific surface area, high damping capacity, high temperature stability, chemical inertness and low dielectric constant. Consequently, porous ceramics have a wide range of applications in both technical and biomedical fields. For example, as analytical separators, bone defect fillers, tissue-engineering scaffolds, drug delivery systems, electrochemical biosensors, optical Chemical Sensors and chromatography. A great number of approaches have been developed for fabricating porous ceramics. One of the most widely used approaches is the sol-gel method. A series of literatures indicates that preparations of ceramic powder and films through sol-gel method have been widely reported. There are also reports about the preparation of monolithic composite systems. While there are only a few reports for the preparation of a pure monolith using sol-gel method.
