For improvement of lubrication condition in start process of sliding, effects of the trapped oil film and the slight rolling were investigated using a glass disk (20nm Cr coating) and a steel ball. From observation results using an ultrasonic technique, which can detect the cavity that induces the oil film rupture, and an optical observation technique, it was clarified that trapped oil film and slight rolling are effectual to inhibit the oil film rupture.
