Achieving Low Torque by Applying Low Viscosity Synthetic Grease to Hub-unit Bearing

Recently, the requirements for vehicle fuel consumption have becoming increasingly stricter. For instance according to the European regulation, Euro 6, by 2020 fuel efficiency will have to improve by 33%. For wheel bearings (hereinafter referred to as hub units) where the reduction of torque is a perennial requirement, up until now JTEKT has striven to lower rotational torque by reducing the seal sliding friction. This report presents the development of grease that enables bearings to achieve better performance by lowering rotational torque.
