Development of a gyratory crusher utilises different types of lubrication systems to lubricate and protect interacting surfaces of the crusher internals. Three lubrication systems were used, with various bearing types incorporated into the design of the internal workings of the machine. The first type of lubrication system is a Hydrodynamic lubrication system, specific bearings being Pad Bearings and Journal Bearings. The lubrication oil is supplied at a high pressure, thereby adding a Hydrostatic element to the bearings. The second type of lubrication system is a Hydrostatic lubrication system, specifically a footstep geometric type of bearing. The bearing is not a pure Hydrostatic system, oil is supplied at a pressure great enough to support the rotating component, but the supported component is not rotating at a rotational speed, rather in a sweeping oscillating motion. The third type of lubrication system is Grease lubricated brass spherical bearing; allowing for shaft rotation, oscillatory motion, and linear shaft motion. This document describes the methodology used to adapt existing lubrication systems that they could be utilised in a gyratory crusher - Bearing Geometry, Pressure Distribution, Load Capacities and Flow Rates required were calculated as part of the design procedure.
