Preparation of porous alumina ceramics with oriented pores using various fibers as pore formers

Porous alumina ceramics with unidirectionally oriented pores were prepared by an extrusion method. Nylon 6, nylon 66 and carbon fibers were used for pore formers. The porous ceramics prepared using nylon 6 fibers have twisted pores originated from fibers and entrapped pores between fibers while those using nylon 66 fibers have good oriented pores. The porous ceramics prepared using carbon fibers have excellently oriented pores but some carbon fibers were broken during kneading process.
