The influences of the relative density of calcium oxide (CaO) particles on the sintering ability of hydroxyapatite (HA)/CaO mixture was discussed. The mixture consisted of 70vol percent CaO and 30vol percent HA. The mixture was sintered at 800 deg C, 10min, 20MPa under vacuum. The relative density of HA/CaO composites was the highest from 85 to 90 percent in a relative density of CaO, and the value was about 95 percent. The control of the relative density of CaO was very important for the fabrications of porous HA ceramics by SPS process.
