Films of brucite-type cobalt hydroxide with nano rod morphology and Hydrotalcite-type cobalt hydroxide with nano sheet morphology films were fabricated by heterogeneous nucleation in the chemical bath using water and water/methnanol mixed solution as solvents, respectively. Both brucite- and hydrotalcite-types cobalt hydroxides films were transformed into Co_3O_4 by pyrolysis without the nanostructural deformation. The Co_3O_4 films were porous structure with large surface area because both rod and sheet were constructed by nanoparticles and nanopores after removing the self-template.
