An advanced and feasible Wide-area Sewage quality Online Auto-monitoring System (WSOAS) based on Modbus protocol is presented in this paper. The system can auto-monitor sewage quality of many measuring substations of heavy sewage factories. The remote computer can regulate the parameters of each instrument on the spot. Since the substation continues monitoring, the data can reflect real time the sewage quality. At the same time, the system can auto-alarm once the industries discharge heavy sewage by stealth. The system has been applied in thirty-six monitoring transects of sewage sources in pearl-river delta area. The results indicate the system can meet the actual requirement.
