Since Vives introduced the CREM in 1989, the function of electromagnetic field to eliminate surface defects has been proved by many physical experiments and numerical simulations. Recently, a so-called soft-contact continuous casting of steel process by high frequency electromagnetic field has been developed to eliminate the oscillation mark on steel strand surface. Some authors have focused on influences of high frequency electromagnetic field on fluid flow, heat transfer and surface quality which involved in meniscus contour, initial solidification and shell deformation.
