Steel Plates Made of Hot Band as an Economic Alternative to Plate Mill Products

There is a growing demand for steel plates with low and homogeneous internal stresses especially those with a thickness ranging from 0.5 to 1 inch. This market is usually served by plate mills that produce prime quality plates which can easily be cut by laser or plasma culling facilities. But more and more plates that are made of coiled hot band are used for more and more applications. This material should be laser cutable and similar to plate mill products. Heavy shearing lines from SMS Siemag can be used to manufacture steel plates up lo 1 inch thick at a quality close to that of heavy plates, and suitable for the toughest requirements. Therefore this plant concept oilers a cheaper way to produce these plates as a plate mill does. The heart of these plants is a high-precision leveling machine with several features that ensure flat and plain plates as well as a low residual stress level.
