As can be seen from the information presented, there are many options for choosing a front-end on a low voltage AC drive system. There is no clear-cut right or wrong answer. However, an informed decision must be made on a case by case basis. The most important selection criteria surround the following issues: Braking demands and line regeneration; Power disturbance ride-through; Impact loading requirements; Power line issues (harmonics and power factor); Nominal supply voltage and hardware cost; Spare parts assessment.
