The authors performed anatomical study by cadaver dissection, arterio-gram and Doppler mapping and described a new vessel originating in most of times from the tibioperoneal trunk (64%), with mean diameter of 1.7 mm and mean length of 6.1 cm, denominated superior peroneal artery. This artery is constant and can be used to design a cutaneous or a chimeric flap from the superolateral region of the leg (SLL flap). The SIX flap is specially suitable for reconstruction of small to moderate defects of the lower leg.
