Importance of Rapid End-Use Quality Measurement of Wheat: Processor's View

摘要

The focus of this note will be on the importance of rapid and accurate assessment of grain quality from the processor perspective. There are several distinct challenges. A case study of the Toyota management philosophy will be presented, and exampleswill be sighted where the grain industry can learn from the Toyota case. Next, a study of how variability influences manufacturing production will be presented. This will be followed by a discussion of how improved methods for estimating end-use qualityof grain can help to reduce variability in the grain industry's manufacturing processes. Hopefully, this viewpoint will shed some additional light on the complexities of supply chain management currently practiced in the manufacture of grain-based products to meet customer's expectations for consistency and performance.
