STUDY OF THE UNSUPPORTED NI-MO SULFIDE CATALYST WITH ULTRA-HIGH HYDROGENATION PERFORMANCE

Environmental concern has led to increasingly drastic regulations on sulfur, nitrogen and aromatics contents in fuels. The production of clean diesel oil with low sulfur, nitrogen and aromatics contents has become one of the development themes of oil refinery industry (1). The most economical and effective measure to realize this objective is to prepare the catalysts with ultra-high hydrogenation activity. The unsupported NEBULA catalyst produced by Akzo Nobel Company in 2001 is considered as the catalyst with the highest hydrogenation activity (2). Compared with the previous supported catalysts, the hydrogenation activity of NEBULA catalyst is enhanced greatly because of no influence of supports, which allows the entire structure to be composed of the catalytic material. Nowadays, more and more attentions have been paid to the studies of the unsupported catalysts (3-5). However, NEBULA catalyst is an oxided unsupported Ni-Mo-W catalyst, and must be presulfided before utilization. As a result, the usage of poisonous and odorous presulfided reagents could lead to serious environmental pollution. Consequently, to search a novel hydrotreating catalyst which has ultra-high hydrogenation performance and meanwhile does not need to be presulfided before utilization has become one urgent problem to be solved.
