Traditionally, chlorination has been the most commonly adopted disinfection process for the treatment of drinking water. However, due to the several other disadvantages associated with chlorination, such as the formation of disinfection by-products (DBPs) and the appearance of chlorine resistant Cryptosporidium parvum oocyst and Giardia lamblia cyst, the need for development of an alternative disinfectant has continuously been required.
