A new catalytic structured packing was developed using PdNiCe deposition into a coated silico-aluminate stainless steel sponge. The hydrogenation activity and selectivity were measured using 1,3-pentadiene and 1-pentene as feed at different operating condition for two solids with different Al content. The catalysts were characterized before and after reaction. It was found that Al modified the coating adhesion and the number of metals and acid sites, and thus the activity, selectivity, and stability of the catalysts.
