In order to meet stringent environmental regulations that have recently been enacted throughout the world and to deal with the depletion of fossil fuels reserves recent work has targeted biomass as a replacement for fossil fuels. Biomass is currently attracting interest as a renewable energy source that has several advantages over conventional fuels, such as reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and improvement in the economics of utilization [1,2].
