3DOm-i zeolites are a class of hierarchical micro/mesoporous molecular sieves made by confined synthesis in 3D0m carbons which, in turn, are made using colloidal crystal templates composed of closely packed spherical silica nanoparticles. The first report on these materials' indicated possible applications in catalysis as well as for the preparation of zeolite nanocrystals. In this presentation, frameworks that have been prepared as 3D0m-i zeolites will be reviewed and the principles that govern precise control of micro and mesoporosity will be discussed.
